An essential custom observed during the Navratri celebrations is Sandhi Puja. It is regarded as one of the most important Durga Puja rituals, and this puja is carried out at an oddly exact moment, namely when Ashtami tithi ends and Navami tithi starts. Sandhikhan, or the precise moment when Goddess Durga assumed the form of Goddess Chamunda and slew the demons Chanda and Munda, is the sum of the final 24 minutes of Ashtami Tithi and the opening 24 minutes of Navami Tithi.

Legend of Sindhi Puja

According to a different tradition or interpretation of the Sandhi Puja tale, when Lord Rama went to Lanka to retrieve Goddess Sita, he worshipped Goddess Durga in order to obtain her blessing and call upon her to effectively conquer Lanka. Therefore, Lord Rama participated in the Durga Puja, also known as “Akal-Bodhon.” Goddess Durga appeared before Lord Rama during the Sandhi-khan and bestowed her blessings. As a result, Lord Rama’s conquest of Lanka is another illustration of how good can triumph over evil.

Sandhi Puja Significance

The legend that surrounds Sandhi Puja is what gives it its significance. According to the Sandhi Puja legend, in Hindu mythology, the demon Mahishasura’s allies Chanda and Munda attacked Goddess Durga from behind, infuriating the Goddess and turning her face blue in rage. When her third eye was opened, the goddess Durga’s Chamunda avatar appeared and slew the two terrible demons. In adoration of Chamunda, the ferocious manifestation of Goddess Durga, Sandhi Puja is performed.

A big style of Sandhi Puja Vidhi is used. On this day, 108 clay lamps, 108 lotuses, a garland of 108 bel leaves, jewellery, traditional clothing, hibiscus flowers, uncooked rice, and a red fruit are used in the Durga Puja ritual. These things are presented to the Goddess as the Sandhi Puja Mantra is recited. Even though each household performs Sandhi Puja in a different manner, it is guaranteed that the puja starts at the identical minute that Sandhikhan does.
