The Purnimant calendar states that the holy month of Shravan will start tomorrow. Lord Shiva is the focus of this month, which also serves as the beginning of the Chaturmas season. According to legend, Lord Shiva is said to watch over the universe for four months while Lord Vishnu is away. As a result, followers honour Mahadev and Devi Parvati by fasting on Mondays (Somwar) and Tuesdays (Mangalwar), respectively. Shravan or Sawan Somwar Vrat is observed on Monday, whereas Mangal Gauri Vrat is observed on Tuesday. Continue reading to learn about the Shiva Puja Vidhi before Shravan Maas.

Shravan Somwar Shiva Puja Vidhi

  • At Brahma muhurta, awaken (two hours before sunrise)
  • Don clean clothes and take a bath.
  • Dhyana (meditation) first, then Sankalpa (take a pledge that you would sincerely observe the Sawan Somwar Vrat).
  • Purify your home with the holy waters and utilise Gangajal to clean your temple or altar. then complete all the Shodshopchar puja preparations.
  • Dhyana – By meditating, you can connect with Mahadev on a deeper level.
  • Asana – On the wooden altar or platform, scatter some Bel Patra or raw rice.
  • Padya – The Shiva Linga of Lord Shiva’s idol should then be respectfully placed on it. Give the Lord’s feet water.
  • Arghya – Give the Lord water to wash his hands and face with.
  • Achaman – After giving your palm to God, drink the water.
  • Snana – Give the Lord water to bathe in. For doing the Abhishek, one may utilise water, milk, Gangajal, honey, curd, ghee, etc.
  • Vastra – Give the god a clean piece of cloth.
  • Yagnopaveeth – Give the Lord the holy Janeyu and Akshat.
  • Gandha – Present the Chandan paste.
  • Pushpa – Offer Vilva leaves, Datura flowers, white crown flowers, etc.
  • Dhoop – Offer dhoop and incense sticks.
  • Deep – Offer ghee lamps, mustard or sesame oils, or both.
  • Naivedhya – Give bhog (sattvic food preparations).
  • Tabulam – Fruits, coconut, pan supari, and dakshina (cash)
  • Do the aarti.
  • Pradakshina or Parikrama/ Circumambulate – Turn around to your right as you stand up to your feet.
  • Pushpanjali – Pranam and present flowers
  • Kshama Prarthana – Express your regret to Lord Shiva for whatever errors you may have made during the pooja.
