As Chaturthi is a day devoted to the worship of Lord Ganesha, it is regarded as an auspicious occasion. Vinayaka Chaturthi and Sankashti Chaturthi are the two Chaturthi that occur within a month. Vinayaka Chaturthi occurs during Shukla Paksha, whereas Sankashti Chaturthi occurs during Krishna Paksha. Individuals observe fasting and worship Lord Ganesha while offering petitions. On October 18, 2023, during the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashwina, Vinayaka Chaturthi will be observed.

Vinayaka Chaturthi Rituals

  1. Obtain an early morning ablution upon awakening.
  2. Position a Lord Ganesha idol, apply haldi kumkum tilak, present a garland, Durva grass, and desserts (modak and laddoo), and make an offering.
  3. Delight a diya with desi ghee while reciting mantras to Ganesha.
  4. Perform the Bindayak Katha and Lord Ganesha’s worship.
  5. Perform a Ganesha aarti, and proceed with the aforementioned procedure in the evening as well.
  6. Present the Moon with Arghya in the evening.
  7. After the puja ritual has been completed, devotees may break their fast.
    It is recommended that they consume solely sattvik cuisine.

Lord Ganesha is also regarded as the first deity to be worshipped (Pratham pujya). On this specific day, it is believed that devotees who worship Lord Ganesha with profound devotion and solemnity expunge all negative past karma. Additionally, Lord Ganesha bestows success, happiness, and an obstacle-free existence upon his devotees.
