Ganesha’s large ears are one of his most distinguishing traits. Ganapati’s big ears are noticeable, but do they have any hidden significance or symbolism?  Let’s explore :-

Ganesh’s large ears symbolise his enormous hearing ability. The large ears symbolise the need of attentive and active listening. Ganapati has the ability to hear even the faintest and most intricate noises. He has the ability to listen to any noises at any pace and loudness. He will not omit a single word.

Due to this quality and capacity of Ganapati, Sage Vyasa the author of the Mahabharata selected Ganesha to be his scribe. Whatever Sage Vyasa dictated was written down in a simple language by Ganesha so that human beings can understand.

For worshippers, Ganesha’s large ears signify that he listens intently to their pleas with compassion and kindness.
