As per the Hindu calendar, the day preceding Diwali, the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Ashwin (the month of Kartik according to North Indian belief), is celebrated as Kali Chaudas in order to honor the ferocious goddess Kali. Significance of Kali Chaudas
