Meryl Streep Husband: Is Meryl Dating Martin Short?
Meryl Streep has been married to her husband Don Gummer for more than four decades. Streep’s work has lasted longer than her marriage, and Gummer has been by her side virtually the entire time. Despite how long they’ve been together, most people don’t know much about the artist and father of Streep’s four children.
The couple stated in October that they had been separated for six years and were living fully apart. A spokeswoman for the actor said, “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”
That same month, Streep was photographed wearing her wedding band at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023, although they have not appeared together since the Oscars in 2018.
Who is Don Gummer?
Gummer is a skilled artist with a BFA from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and an MFA from Yale University. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and predominantly works as a modern sculpture, having had a number of solo and group exhibitions during his career.
How did Streep and Gummer meet?
Streep’s then-boyfriend, John Cazale, died of lung cancer in March 1978. They had been together for two years and appeared together in The Deer Hunter. According to Michael Schulman’s biography Her Again: Becoming Meryl Streep, Gummer met Streep while she was still mourning her loss.
She’d decided to leave the flat she’d previously shared with Cazale. When her brother arrived to assist her, he brought along his friend Don Gummer. Streep and Gummer became friends, and she ended up subletting his condo while he was away. They corresponded via letters while he was away and established a romance upon his return.

Some felt that the October 2023 news of Streep’s divorce from her longtime husband Don Gummer six years earlier was meant to foreshadow speculations of her new affair with Short. However, neither Short nor Streep has remarked on their relationship.
“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,” a Streep spokesman said at the time.
Short’s rep, on the other hand, told The Messenger of his friendship with Streep, “They are just very good friends, nothing more.”
Martin Short Previous Wife and Daughter
Short and his late wife Nancy Dolman had one adult daughter and two adult boys. Katherine, Henry, and Oliver are their names.
Short met Dolman in 1972 while co-starring in the musical Godspell. They married in 1980, after which Dolman left her work to raise their children.
Dolman died in 2010 from ovarian cancer.
