Hundreds of thousands of Hindu worshippers celebrate Narada Jayanti, one of the most prominent and significant Hindu festivals. The birth anniversary of ‘Narada,’ God’s messenger, is commemorated on Narada Jayanti. He is revered as the deities’ heavenly messenger and the forefather of communication.

Sage Narada or Devrishi Narada Muni used to travel in different Lokas, including Prithvi, Aakash, and Paatal, to interact with and pass messages and information to the gods. He sang the messages out loud using his Veena. He was one of Lord Vishnu’s most devoted disciples.

According to the Hindu calendar, Narada Jayanti occurs in the Vaisakh month, during the Krishna Paksha, on the 1st day of the Krishna Paksha in the year 2024. (Pratipada tithi). According to the Gregorian calendar, the day will fall in either June or May in 2024.

Rituals of Narada Jayanti?

  • Taking a holy bath before daybreak on this day, like with other Hindu festivals, is considered sacred.
  • The worshippers put on fresh and neat puja vastra after taking a bath (worship clothing).
  • Lord Visnu is worshipped and prayed to by devotees, as Narada Muni was a devout follower of the deity.
  • The deity is then presented with chandan, tulsi leaves, kumkum, incense sticks, flowers, and sweets.
  • Devotees then observe a Narada Jayanti Vrat, which is said to be very important.
  • Fasting followers are only allowed to consume milk products and fruits and are not allowed to ingest pulses or cereals.
  • During the night, the observers are not permitted to sleep. To appease Lord Vishnu, they must spend all of their time reciting Mantras.
  • The recitation of the ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ is seen to be extremely auspicious.
  • Devotees perform Lord Vishnu’s aarti once the rituals are completed.
  • Devotees should go to Kashi Vishwanath to seek the deity’s blessings.
  • On the eve of Narada Jayanti, performing charity is thought to be extremely beneficial. The observer must give the Brahmins food, clothing, and money.

Narada Jayanti is observed with utmost devotion and enthusiasm by devotees. Several academic sessions and seminars are held on this particular day, particularly in northern India’s areas. In Karnataka, there are a few Narada Muni temples that are very popular. In these temples, large ceremonies are held.
