Shri Satyanarayan Puja Vidhi: Know the Mantras to Please Lord Vishnu
During Satyanarayan Puja and other Lord Vishnu-related occasions, all sixteen rites are performed, as well as the chanting of Puranik Mantras. Shodashopachara Puja is the practice of worshipping Gods and Goddesses through all 16 rituals.
- Dhyanam (ध्यानम्)
Lord Satyanarayan’s meditation should be the first part of the puja. Dhyana should be performed in front of a Satyanarayan image or idol. While concentrating on Lord Satyanarayan, chant the following mantra.
ध्यानयत सत्यं गुणतितम गुणत्रयसमन्वितम्।
लोकनाथं त्रिलोकेशम कौस्तुभभरणम हरीम
नीलवर्ण पितवस्त्रम् श्रीवत्सपादभुशीतम।
गोविंदम गोकुलानंदम ब्रह्मदयारापि पूजितम्॥
- Avahanam (आवाहनं)
Following Lord Satyanarayan’s Dhyana, chant the following Mantra in front of the Murti while demonstrating Avahan Mudra (Avahan Mudra is formed by joining both palms and folding both thumbs inwards).
दामोदर समागच्छा लक्ष्मण साहा जगतपते।
इमाम माया कृतम पूजाम गृहण सुरसत्तमश्री लक्ष्मी साहित्य श्री सत्यनारायणाय अवहायमी।
- Asana (आसन)
After Lord Satyanarayan has been called, place five flowers in Anjali (by joining the palms of both hands) in front of the Murti to offer Lord Satyanarayan a seat while singing Mantra.
नानरत्न समकिरण कार्तस्वरविभुशीतम।
आसनम देवदेवेश! प्रीतिअर्थम प्रतिगृह्यतम॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः आसनम समरपयामि।
- Padyam (पाद्यम्)
After offering the Asana, wash Shri Satyanarayan’s feet with water while singing the Mantra.
नारायणः नमस्तेस्तु नारकर्णावतारक।
पद्य गृहण देवेश! मामा सौख्यं विवर्धयाॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः पदयोः पद्यं समरपयामी।
- Arghyam (अर्घ्यम्)
After the Padya offering, chant the Mantra and present water to Shri Satyanarayan for head Abhishekam.
व्यक्तव्यक्तस्वरुपाय हृषिकापताये नमः।
माया निवेदितो भक्त्य अर्घ्योयम प्रतिगृह्यताम्॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः अर्घ्यं समरपयामि।
- Achamaniyam (आचमनीयम्)
After the Arghya offering, chant the Mantra and offer water to Shri Satyanarayan for Achamana.
मंदाकिनीस्तु यादवारी सर्वपापा हरम शुभम।
तदिदं कल्पितं देवा सम्यगचम्यतम विभोॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः अचमनियम समरपयामि।
- Panchamrita Snanam (पञ्चामृत स्नानम्)
After the Achamaniya offering, give Shri Satyanarayan a bath with Panchamrita (a mixture of milk, curd, honey, Ghee, and sugar) while singing the Mantra.
स्नानम पंचामृतैर्देव गृहण सुरसत्तम।
अनंतनाथ सर्वज्ञ गिरवाना प्रणतप्रिय:ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः पंचामृत स्नानं समरपयामी।
- Shuddhodaka Snanam (शुद्धोदक स्नानम्)
Following Panchamrita Snana, give Shri Satyanarayan a bath with pure water while singing the Mantra.
नानतीर्थसमननितम सर्वपापा हरम शुभम।
तदिदं कल्पितं देवा स्नानार्थं प्रतिगृह्यताम्॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः शुद्धोदका स्नानं समरपयामि।
- Vastram (वस्त्रं)
After Shuddhodaka Snana, give Shri Satyanarayan new clothing while chanting the Mantra.
शीतलातोष्ण समत्रणं लज्जयः रक्षांं परम।
देहलंकरणं वस्त्र प्रीतिअर्थम प्रतिगृह्यताम्॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः वस्त्रा युगमं समरपयामि।
- Yajnopavitam (यज्ञोपवीतं)
After the Vastra offering, give Shri Satyanarayan a holy thread while chanting the Mantra.
ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेशेन निमितं सूत्रमुत्तमम्।
गृहण भगवान विष्णु सर्वेष्ठ फलाडो भव:ॐ श्री सत्यनारायण नमः यज्ञोपवितं समरपयामि।
- Chandan (चन्दन)
After the Yajnopavita offering, give Shri Satyanarayan sandalwood paste or powder while chanting the Mantra.
श्रीखंड चंदनं दिव्यं गंधाध्यां सुमनोहरम।
विलेपनं सुरश्रेष्ठ चंदनम प्रतिगृह्यतम॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः चंदनं समरपयामि।
- Pushpa (पुष्प)
After the Chandan offering, give Shri Satyanarayan flowers while repeating the Mantra.
माल्यादिनी सुगंधिनी मालत्यादिनी वै प्रभा।
माया हृतनी पुष्पाणी पुजार्थम प्रतिगृह्यताम्॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः पुष्पं समरपयामि।
- Dhupam (धूपम्)
Offer Dhupa to Shri Satyanarayan after the Pushpa offering, while chanting the Mantra.
वानस्पतिक सुगंध गंधाद्यो गंध उत्तम:।
अघ्रेयेह सर्वदेवनं धूपोयं प्रतिघ्यतम।ॐ श्री सत्यनारायण नमः धूपं अघरपयामी।
- Deepam (दीपं)
After the Dhupam offering, offer Lord Satyanarayan an enlightened clay lamp with pure Ghee while chanting the Mantra.
सज्यं च वर्ति संयुक्तं वाहिनी दीपतम माया।
दीपं गृहण देवेश माँ सौख्यप्रदो भव:ॐ श्री सत्यनारायण नमः दीपं दर्शनामि।
- Naivedyam (नैवेद्यं)
Wash your hands and offer Naivedya after the Deepam offering. It should contain a variety of fruits and sweets, which should be offered to Lord Satyanarayan while singing the Mantra.
घृतपक्कवं हविश्यन्नम पायसम च सशर्करम।
नानविधाम च नैवेद्यम् गृहिणिन्व सुरसत्तमॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः नैवेद्यं निवेदयामि।
- Tambula (ताम्बूल)
After giving Naivedyam, offer Lord Satyanarayan betel leaf (Tambula) while chanting the Mantra.
लवंगकरपुरासमुतम तंबुलम सुरा पूजितम्।
एलादिचुर्ण संयुक्तम् प्रीतिअर्थम प्रतिगृह्यताम्॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः तंबुलं समरपयामि।
- Phala (फल)
After giving Tambulam, give Lord Satyanarayan fruits while repeating the Mantra.
इदम फलम माया देवा! स्तपितम पुरतस्तव।
तेना मे सफलवप्तिरभाववेज्जनमणि जनमनी॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः फलं समरपयामि।
- Aarti (आरती)
After offering fruits, give Aarti to Lord Satyanarayan in a Puja Thali with burning camphor while chanting the Mantra. Sing Shri Satyanarayan Aarti in honour of Lord Satyanarayan after saying the following Mantra.
चतुर्वर्ती संयुक्तम् गोघृतेना चा पुरीतम।
वरदो भव में अर्र्तिक्यम्हन कुर्वे पश्यॐ श्री सत्यनारायण नमः मंगला अर्तेम समरपयामि।
- Pradakshinam (प्रदक्षिणम्)
After Aarti, perform symbolic Pradakshina (circumambulate from Shri Satyanarayan’s left to right) with flowers in hand while repeating the Mantra.
यानी कनि चा पापनी जनमंतरा कृतिनी चा।
तानी तानी विनाश्यंतु प्रदक्षिणा पदे पद॥ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः प्रदक्षिणं समरपयामि।
- Mantra Pushpanjali (मन्त्र पुष्पाञ्जलि)
After Pradakshina, present Lord Satyanarayan incantations and flowers while singing the Mantra.
यनमाया भक्ति युक्तेना पत्रम पुष्पम फलम जालम।
निवेदितम् चा नैवेद्यम तद् गृहणानुकमपाय:
मन्त्रहिणं क्रियाहिनं भक्तिहिनम् जनार्दन।
यत्पुजितं मायादेव परिपूर्णा तदस्तु मे॥
अनया पूजा श्रीविष्णु प्रसादु:
ॐ श्री सत्यनारायणाय नमः पुष्पांजलिं समरपयामि।
