The Story of Indrani tying a rakhi to her husband Indra
The first is the narrative of Indra (the deity commander) and his wife, Indrani. In the Vedic period, the deities fought a war against the devils. The conflict was going badly for the deities, who were losing. Indra became concerned at this point because he knew that if the devils won the fight, it would be disastrous for the Earth. As a result, he chose to join the battle.
At that moment, Indrani, his wife, became concerned about her husband and produced an amulet, which she tied around Indra’s wrist. According to legend, Indra won the conflict, and the amulet became known as the Raksha Sutra.
Queen Kunti and Abhimanyu
Queen Kunti is said to have tied the rakhi as a measure of protection, on the wrist of her grandson, Abhimanyu–the son of Subhadra and Arjun–during the battle of Mahabharata. These anecdotes demonstrate that the Rakhi festivals know no bounds. Rakhi marks a promise of protection that could be given by anyone to anyone.
