WWE Player Virgil Died at 61: Know His Cause of Death
On Wednesday, the world lost a former WWE superstar named Michale Jones, best known by his ring name Virgil. In years, he had lived to 61. His friend and wrestling referee Mark Charles III was the first to announce the news of his death.
“It is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones, and more. Mark Charles III, a friend of Michael’s and a wrestling referee, was the one who initially announced his death on Facebook. “It is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones and more,” wrote Mark.

He revealed on X that he had two major strokes in 2022 and was diagnosed with dementia.
To assist Virgil with his clothing, toiletries, and other needs, a GoFundMe page was established to raise $400. Anyone who donated $25 or more would receive a signed picture of him. With a total of $4,636 collected, the donations exceeded the $400 target.
Shortly after referee Mark Charles III announced the news on Facebook, Virgil’s verified Instagram verified the passing of the WWE star. “Virgil/Michael Jones, our beloved Meatsauce God and Wrestling Superstar, has passed away,” the Instagram post stated.

Virgil Career and Tenure
He helped Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase in fights and was his bodyguard. However, Virgil’s biography states that he betrayed his former employer in 1991 when he declined to place the championship belt on the Million Dollar Man’s waist. After Virgil defeated Ted to win the Million Dollar Title at the SummerSlam, their contrived friendship took a further hit.
He Was Keeping Unwell
The ex-WWE star personally announced the news on his X account in April 2022. It was after seeing a doctor about his non-functioning arm that he learned he had two strokes and was in the early stages of dementia, a neurological disorder, he claimed.
The most devastating blow is the diagnosis of early-stage dementia that I have received. On his X post, he said that he had begun to feel the effects of years of taking the huge main event bump every night, even though nobody else was interested.
Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder that worsens with time, affecting cognitive abilities and leading to symptoms including memory loss and trouble speaking. As time goes on, the patient’s condition deteriorates to the point that he becomes bedridden and loses all recollection.
Fundraiser for Virgil
His loved ones started a fundraising effort to pay for his treatment and other costs. To assist Virgil, a GoFundMe page was created to collect $400.
If you donated $25 or more, the wrestling veteran would give you an autographed photo. The amount collected increased to $4,636 and the number of donations nearly quadrupled.
Returned to WWE in 2010
From 1986 to 1995, Virgil was a member of WWE (formerly WWF). In 2010, he made a short return to the promotion as he collaborated with Ted Dibiase Jr. Virgil helped Dibiase out in his previous role as bodyguard, but he only stayed for a month before he quit.
In 2019 and 2020, he was a regular at Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he teamed up with Chris Jericho and The Inner Circle.
