The part of Sophia Burset in the smash hit Netflix Original series “Orange is the New Black” catapulted Laverne Cox to stardom. As Cox explains, being a transgender woman, there are some challenges when it comes to seeking love. Neither Laverne Cox nor any of her spouses are married as of the year 2022.

Even though Laverne has never tied the knot, she is also not unmarried. Even though she had a hard time finding a compatible mate due to her gender identity, she won the affection of two men.

Is Laverne Cox Married?

Laverne wasn’t fortunate enough to find the one to tie the knot with, despite being 50 years old.

Laverne has been in at least two high-profile romances, the longest of which lasted for nearly two years. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to make a lifelong commitment and be married.

Who is Laverne Cox?

Actress and LGBT rights activist Laverne Cox hails from the United States. Her breakout performance was as Sophia Burset on “Orange Is the New Black,” a Netflix series. As the first transgender person to receive a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for acting, Cox created history.

She was named a Daytime Emmy winner for her work as an executive producer on “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.” Cox has a few other gigs outside of acting, such as appearing on VH1’s reality show “I Want to Work for Diddy” and co-hosting and producing the makeover series “TRANSform Me.” Among her many honors is GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which she has won for her advocacy efforts.

Cox made history as the first transgender person to have Time and Cosmopolitan featured on their covers. Growing up in the AME Zion church, Cox’s grandmother and single mother brought her up in Mobile, Alabama.

M Lamar, her identical twin brother, played her character’s former self on “Orange Is the New Black.” Cox has spoken frankly about how gender identity and cultural expectations contributed to her bullying and suicidal thoughts and actions when she was younger.

Cox persisted in her studies despite obstacles; she started at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, proceeded to Indiana University Bloomington, and finally transferred to Marymount Manhattan College in New York to focus on acting. Despite her Hollywood stardom, Cox kept up her drag queen performances at a Lower East Side restaurant during the first season of “Orange Is the New Black.”

Laverne Cox’s Past Relationships

Laverne dated a few males after her gender transition to womanhood. Unfortunately, no one in the industry knew who her first boyfriend was, and their brief romance ended abruptly.

Our sole knowledge is that her initial romantic partner was neither gay nor had any prior experience with a trans woman. They ended their relationship amicably after dating for a few months, with no ill will or drama involved.

She has been in a relationship with a man named Kyle Draper for the longest period. Sometime in 2017 or soon after they began dating, these two exes crossed paths.

In 2019, they tragically dissolved their romance. In a public Instagram post, Laverne reveals the reasons behind their breakup:

Our relationship is ended, @thekyledraper. We have both realised that it is time for us to part ways after much introspection and emotional hardship. Due to the unexpected public nature of our connection, we felt it was necessary to issue a public declaration. This is the official proclamation. Many others, particularly trans individuals, found inspiration in our partnership and the possibility of love like this, and we will always be grateful for that. The breakup has not diminished my hope for love; on the contrary, it has strengthened it. It has been incredibly healing and encouraging for us both to know that we are capable of loving and being loved with this degree of respect, kindness, trust, tenderness, depth, and intensity. For the opportunity to experience love and for the time we spent together, I am eternally thankful. This experience has helped us both develop in countless ways. At this point, we should just go independently. Both of us are looking for a way to end our relationship that does justice to the love and connection we had. This could work. Says Cox.

Immediately following her split from Kyle Draper, Laverne posted an Instagram photo with the accompanying caption:

A lady here by herself. Feel free to drop a line into my direct messages, guys. Get over it. Keep it polite. Preferred location: Los Angeles area. See you shortly. It’s stunning.

Until quite recently, Laverne had a hard time finding love as the years passed. In 2021, Laverne publicly cursed the fact that she had finally “landed a partner” last year.

She dated this man for around six months before she felt secure enough to expose his name.

The idea that Laverne’s boyfriend was 22 years her junior began circulating.

Finding love as a transwoman can be particularly challenging at times. I mean, I’m getting on in years; I’ll be fifty years old soon. In my opinion, this is nothing short of miraculous. According to Laverne, she is currently in an extremely happy state.

A common misconception is that trans women are different from men, which is one of the most frustrating aspects of the transgender community. People frequently become confused because guys who date trans women are viewed as queer. The transgender community has to be accepted as normal shortly, Laverne added.
