Convicted drug dealer Frank Lucas was an accomplice of Melvin Combs’s father. When Sean was just three years old, Melvin was fatally shot. The family relocated to Mount Vernon, New York following his father’s shooting.

The course of Sean’s life was altered by that choice. Boys’ decision to forego formal education in favor of gang membership was widespread in his former community. Sean attended the highly esteemed Mount Saint Michael Academy in his new area and went on to graduate. He continued his education in business at Howard University in Washington, DC.
