The third day of Shardiya Navratri is known as Vindoor Tritiya festival and is devoted to Devi Parvati’s mata Chandraghanta form. On this day, Ashwin Shukla Tritiya Sindoor Tritiya, which is observed on the Hindu calendar, is observed.

Considered a sign of Suhagan, sindoor (Married). Even when married, it is considered unlucky to not use vermilion. Married women have better luck if they offer vermilion to Mata Rani on Sindoor Tritiya. One of the particular objects used in Devi worship is the sindoor.

Married ladies offer vermilion to the mother on the day of Sindoor Tritiya, and the remaining vermilion is offered every day in the form of prasad.

Other names for Sindoor Tritiya include Maha Tritiya, Saubhagya Teej, and Gauri Teej. Women in West Bengal apply vermilion to themselves during this occasion and wear white saris with crimson borders on this day.
