The yogic abilities and extraordinarily long life of Trailanga Swami (often spelled Tailang Swami or Telang Swami) brought him great fame. January 21st, 2024 is the date of Tailang Swami Jayanti. Tailang Swami supposedly lived for about 250 years. As a versatile Siddha, he worked countless miracles. His actual age is unknown to the vast majority of academics, researchers, doubters, and those who do not believe. However, everyone acknowledges that he lived for more than two hundred years.

On the eleventh day of the waxing phase of the moon in Paush month, specifically on Paush Shukla Paksha Ekadashi tithi, the birth anniversary of Trailanga Swami is honored.

Who Was Tailang Swami?

The famous Hindu Yogi Tailang Swami spent the majority of his life in Varanasi (1607–1888 C.E.), where he exhibited extraordinary mystical abilities. Few of his devotees spoke of him as “The Walking Shiva of Varanasi” because of the widespread belief that he was an actual manifestation of the Hindu god Shiva. According to popular belief, Tailang Swami lived for close to two hundred and eighty years. Trailanga Swami and Telang Swami were two more names he went by.

The holy man Tailang Swami came into this world at the town of Holia, Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. They named him Shivarama because his parents were devout followers of the Hindu god. Following the deaths of his parents at the age of forty, he withdrew from society and engaged in spiritual practice for twenty years. After that, he supposedly visited Prayag in 1733 and finally resided in Varanasi in 1737 while on a pilgrimage.

  • Swami Ganapati Saraswati was his monastic name.
  • The majority of his adherents hail from Bengal.
  • Some even consider him to be Shiva’s reincarnation.
  • According to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Tailang Swami is like the Walking Shiva of Varanasi.
  • Exactly when he was born is a mystery. However, the 17th century was a pivotal time for this life.
  • A Kali Mantra was bestowed upon him by his mother. Legend has it that he spent twenty years as a hermit repeating the Kali Mantra outside a cemetery.
  • Bhagirath Ananda Saraswati, his Guru, was thereafter encountered. Sannyasa was bestowed upon him by the Guru. In 1737 AD, he supposedly made his home in either Varanasi or Kashi.
  • After he joined the Dashanami order at Kashi, he was given the name Trailanga Swami. He passed away in 1887 while residing in Kashi.
  • He never asked for anything, hardly spoke, and sported no clothing. Whatever he got, he was delighted with.
